Discovering Broadway

Discovering Broadway is making Carmel the launchpad for Indiana through two flagship programs: writers retreats where composers create Broadway scores and master classes where industry top professionals teach one-on-one high school students. In five years, more than 100 Broadway stars from New York, London, and Los Angeles have participated, workshopping musicals such as Elton John’s The Devil Wears Prada, Drew Barrymore’s Ever After, and A Beautiful Mind. Past master class instructors include Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo, Tony-winner Lindsay Mendez, and Grammy-winner Phillipa Soo.

The New York Times celebrated Discovering Broadway Inc. and the City of Carmel in the 2021 for incubating Broadway-bound musicals and providing top-tier educational experiences, all before Broadway reopened during COVID-19. The mission has been celebrated in People Magazine, Playbill, IBJ, IndyStar, and more!
